CABSWIN Control Unit

This Special Instruction provides the necessary guidelines for installation of CABSWIN onto Wheel Harvesters.

Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publication until you understand the information that is contained in this document.

Reference: Schematic, RENR3021, "550 Wheel Harvester, 570 Wheel Harvester and 580 Wheel Harvester, Electrical System".

Preparation of the Machine

  1. Clean the machine. Cleaning the machine will help to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when hydraulic components are being installed.

  1. Start the machine. Fully extend the stick. Lower the attachment to the ground.

    ------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.

To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

    ----------------------

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep other personnel away from the machine and the harvester head.

  1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move away from other operating machines and away from personnel.

    Illustration 2g00601926

  1. Lower the machine to the lowest position. Retract the extendable stick. Tilt the harvester head into the HORIZONTAL position. Lower the harvester head to the ground.

  1. Place the operating mode switch in the NEUTRAL position.

    Illustration 3g00485495

    Steering Frame Lock (LOCKED Position)

  1. Install the steering frame lock. Place blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

    Illustration 4g00485499

  1. Install the swing lock pins.

  1. Stop the engine by turning the engine start switch key to the OFF position.

  1. Turn the engine start switch key to the ON position. Place the boom switch in the ON position. Move the implement joystick and the joystick for the pendulum arms through the full range of motion. Moving the joysticks will release the pressure in the hydraulic system.

  1. Turn the engine start switch key to the OFF position. Place the boom switch in the OFF position. Turn the battery disconnect switch and the secondary disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Note: The valve cover on the HH45, HH55, and HH65 weighs approximately 160 N (35 lb). The valve cover on the HH75 weighs approximately 300 N (65 lb). Two people are required to remove the valve cover.

  1. Slide the valve cover off the harvester head.

    Illustration 7g00429560

  1. In order to relieve the oil pressure in the harvester head, place a wrench on one of the studs for the hydraulic control valve. Refer to Illustration 7. Slowly turn the wrench until the wrench is fully down. Slowly turn the wrench until the wrench is fully up.

  1. Repeat step 15 for each stud on the hydraulic control valve. The HH45 Harvester Head, the HH55 Harvester Head, and the HH65 Harvester Head have seven studs. The HH75 Harvester Head has eight studs.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from fumes, gases and ultraviolet rays from the weld arc.

Welding can cause fumes, burn skin and produce ultraviolet rays.

Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing area. Wear eye, ear and body protection before working.

Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can cause death.

Read and understand the manufacturer's instructions and your employer's safety practices. Do not touch live electrical parts.
