(1) Drag bar

(2) Supports

(3) Fifth drag bar

(4) Sprocket

  1. Lower the screed to the ground.

  1. Position the drag chain so that one of drag bars (1) on drag chain sprocket (4) is facing the rear of the machine.

  1. With drag bar (1) on sprocket (4), count down and count forward to fifth drag bar (3). The fifth drag bar should be just touching supports (2) .

  1. If any portion of the drag chain that is forward of the fifth drag bar is touching the supports, adjustment of the chain is necessary. If the fifth drag bar is not touching the supports, adjustment of the chain is necessary. If the drag chain is adjusted correctly, no adjustment is necessary.

    (6) Front takeup shaft

    (7) Adjusting rod

  1. Remove pins (5) from adjusting rod (7). Remove adjusting rod from front takeup shaft (6) .

  1. Insert adjusting rod (7) into the holes of front takeup shaft (6) in order to adjust the drag chain. If the drag chain in front of fifth drag bar (3) was touching supports (2), turn the adjusting rod counterclockwise in order to tighten the chain. If the fifth drag bar was not touching the supports, turn the adjusting rod clockwise in order to place more slack in the drag chain. Adjust the front takeup shaft in small increments.

  1. Check drag chain for the correct chain tension after each adjustment. Repeat Step 2 to Step 7 until the drag chain is adjusted correctly.

  1. Place the adjusting rod in the front takeup shaft. Place pins (5) in adjusting rod (7) .
