Service Brake Discs - Check
- Stop the engine. Prepare the machine for servicing. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance manual for your machine.
- Place wheel blocks in front of the rear wheels and behind the rear wheels.
- Make a FT-2504 Brake Wear Gauge in order to measure the brake discs for minimum thickness. Refer to Illustration 1 for fabrication dimensions.
Note: The brake wear gauge can be made from 6.4 mm (0.252 inch) square bar stock or key stock.

- Compress and hold the brake pack by engaging the brakes.
- Measure the thickness of a brake disc (2) by inserting the FT-2504 Brake Wear Gauge through the oil filler plug hole (3) and between the plates of the compressed brake pack. Refer to Illustration 3.
The minimum allowable thickness (S) is 4.50 ± .05 mm (0.1772 ± 0.0020 inch).
If the thickness of a brake disc is 4.30 ± .05 mm (0.1693 ± 0.0020 inch) or less, replace the brake discs.

- Disengage the brakes.
- Reinstall the oil filler plug.
- Repeat Steps 5 through 9 in order to check the thickness of the brake discs at the opposite side of the differential for the front axle. Repeat Steps 5 through 9 at each side of the differential for the rear axle.
Note: Repeat this procedure as often as needed in order to maintain the correct thickness of the brake discs.
- Remove the wheel blocks.
- Prepare the machine for operation.
