Brake Cylinder (Master) - Test and Adjust
Refer to Systems Operation"General Information" for additional information on the brake system before you perform any of the following procedures:
Test
- Park the machine on level ground and stop the engine.
- Block the wheels and engage the parking brake.
- Carefully attempt to move the push rod (1) upward and attempt to move the push rod (1) downward. A small amount of end play should be detected.

The brake cylinder (master) is located under the instrument panel to the left of the steering column. (1) Push rod (2) Locknut |
- Slowly press the brake pedal. The end play at the rod should be taken up when the brake pedal has travelled approximately 0.75 ± 0.25 mm (0.030 ± 0.0010 inch).
- If there is no end play at the push rod, the push rod must be adjusted. If there is more than 0.75 ± 0.30 mm (0.0295 ± 0.0010 inch) of pedal travel, the push rod must be adjusted in order to eliminate free play.
Adjust
Adjustment of the Brake Cylinder Push Rod
- Loosen locknut (2) on the push rod.
- Turn push rod (1) until the end play produces 0.75 ± 0.25 mm (0.030 ± 0.0010 inch) of pedal movement.
- Tighten locknut (2) on the push rod.
Height Adjustment of the Brake Pedal
Additional adjustment may be necessary to the height of the brake pedal.
Refer to Table 1.
