Bank Valve (Main Hydraulic) - Remove

Usage:

HH45 2JZ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Prepare the machine for disassembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Preparation for Disassembly".

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Put identification on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

You can remove Individual valve spools from the main control valve with the main control valve in place. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bank Valve (Main Hydraulic) - Disassemble". Remove the main control valve from the harvester head in order to overhaul the entire main control valve. Remove the main control valve from the harvester head in order to replace an individual valve in the main control valve.

  1. Place the harvester head in the vertical position. Secure the frame to the yoke with a suitable restraining device.

Reference: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Preparation for Disassembly".

  1. Remove covers (1) and (2). This provides access to the hydraulic hose assemblies that connect to the bottom of the main control valve. This also provides access to the bolts that attach the hydraulic control valve to the harvester head.

  1. Remove the restraint between the yoke and the frame. Start the machine and place the harvester head frame in the horizontal position. Stop the machine.

Reference: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Preparation for Disassembly".

  1. Remove cover (3) over the main control valve.

  1. Remove the lubrication tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Lubrication Tank Remove".

Note: It is necessary to disconnect all hydraulic hose assemblies from the hydraulic control valve. Because of the compact design of the harvester head, the hoses need to be disconnected in a systematic manner. Secure the hoses away from the main control valve after the hoses have been disconnected.

  1. Disconnect the hoses in the following sequence. Refer to Illustration 3. A similar sequence can be followed for the HH75 Harvester Head.

(HH45, HH55, and HH65 hydraulic control valve shown with hoses removed for clarity.)

    1. Disconnect four hoses from manifold (4). Remove the fitting on the left side of manifold (4). This provides access to the hydraulic hose fittings on valve (5) .

    1. Disconnect two hoses from valve (5) .

    1. Disconnect two large hoses and one small hose from valve (6) .

    1. Disconnect two large hoses and one small hose from valve (7) .

    1. Disconnect two hoses from valve (11) .

    1. Disconnect two hoses from valve (10). Disconnect one hose from underneath valve (10) .

    1. Disconnect two hoses from valve (9) .

    1. Disconnect two hoses from valve (8). Disconnect one hose from underneath valve (8) .

    1. For the HH75 Harvester Head, disconnect two hoses from the valve for the measuring arm. This step is not applicable to the HH45, HH55, or HH65 harvester heads.

    1. Disconnect two hoses from the tee fitting on end plate (12) .

  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors (13) and (14) from the solenoids. Tie the electrical connectors away from the solenoids.

    Illustration 6g00447912

  1. Disconnect five hoses from pressure reducing valve (17) .

  1. Disconnect three hoses from variable pressure reducing valve (18). Disconnect two connectors (15) from valve (18) .

  1. Disconnect two hoses from bypass relief valve (20). Disconnect electrical connector (16) from valve (20). Remove the two through bolts from the underside of bypass relief valve (20). Move bypass relief valve (20) away from the hydraulic control valve. This is done in order to provide access to the hoses on pressure reducing valve (19) .

  1. Disconnect five hoses from pressure reducing valve (19). Four of the hoses are connected to tees on the front side of the valve. The fifth hose is located under the pressure tap near the valve plate. Removing bypass relief valve (20) provides improved access to this hose.

  1. Support the hydraulic control valve with a suitable lifting sling and a hoist. Remove four bolts and nuts (21) that attach the hydraulic valve to the hydraulic valve plate.

  1. Lift the hydraulic control valve off the harvester head. The weight of the main control valve is 36.4 kg (80 lb).
