Assembly Procedure

1. Inspect O-ring seals and gaskets for damage. Replace the damaged O-ring seals and gaskets with new parts. Be sure that the valve bodies and all the parts of the valve are clean. Place clean oil on all of the parts.

2. If seat (53) was removed during disassembly, install seat (53) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force. Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment. Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

3. Install the two O-ring seals on seat (50) . Install valve (52) , spring (49) , valve (51) , and seat (50) at location (X) in the valve body.

NOTICE
When installing the outer bearing in Step 4, use Tooling (A) on the stamped end of the bearing only.

4. Use Tooling (A) , and install the inner bearing and the outer bearing in the valve body.

5. Use Tooling (A) and install lip seal (48) with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the valve body. Place a light film of oil on the sealing lip of the seal.

6. Place lever (46) in position in the valve body, and install shaft (47) through the valve body and in lever (46) . Install the bolt and the washer in order to secure lever (46) to shaft (47) .

7. Place the gasket and cover (43) in position, and install bolts (42) .

NOTICE
When installing bearings (44) in Step 8, use Tooling (A) on the stamped end of the bearing only.

8. Use Tooling (A) , and install eight roller bearings (44) in the valve body.

   Note: Drive bearings (44) on the numbered side only.

9. Use Tooling (A) , and install four seals (45) with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the valve body.

10. Install pin (40) in bearing (39) and lever (32) . Install retaining ring (38) on the pin.

11. Install washer (37) and lock ring (36) on shaft assembly (34) . If the key was removed during disassembly, install key (41) in the groove in shaft assembly (34) .

12. Repeat Steps 10 and 11, and assemble the remaining three lever and shaft assemblies.

13. Place lever assembly (30) in position in the valve body. Install shaft assembly (28) through the valve body and in lever assembly (30) . Rotate shaft assembly (28) in order to align the holes. Install the bolt and the washer in order to secure the lever to the shaft. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 48 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft).

14. Place lever assembly (33) in position in the valve body. Install shaft assembly (35) through the valve body and in lever assembly (33) . Rotate shaft assembly (35) in order to align the holes. Install the bolt and the washer in order to secure the lever to the shaft. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 48 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft).

15. Install cup plugs (26) .

16. Place lever assembly (32) in position in the valve body. Install shaft assembly (34) through the valve body and in lever assembly (32) . Rotate shaft assembly (34) in order to align the holes. Install the bolt (25) and the washer in order to secure the lever to the shaft assembly. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 48 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft).

17. Place lever assembly (31) in position in the valve body. Install shaft assembly (29) through the valve body and in lever assembly (31) . Rotate shaft assembly (29) in order to align the holes. Install the bolt (27) and the washer in order to secure the lever to the shaft. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 48 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft).

18. Install springs (22) and plungers (23) in the original locations in the valve body.

19. Install bolts (24) and the washers. Install retainer (20) and bolt (21) in the valve body in order to hold the plungers in place. Tighten bolt (24) to a torque of 30 ± 7 N·m (22 ± 5 lb ft). Tighten bolt (21) to a torque of 30 ± 7 N·m (22 ± 5 lb ft).

20. Install ball (19) , spring (17) , and plunger (18) in valve spool (11) . Install retaining ring (16) in the spool.

21. Install shims (12) , spring (13) , and washer (14) on valve spool (11) . Install retaining ring (15) on the spool.

22. Repeat Steps 20 and 21 for the remaining three valve spools.

23. Install a new O-ring seal on each plugs (8) . Install spool assemblies (11) , springs (10) , spacers (9) , and plugs (8) in the original locations in the valve body.

24. Place the gasket and plate (3) in position and install bolts (4) .

25. Install parking brake lever (7) and tighten the bolt.

26. Install brake control levers (2) and (5) and tighten the bolts.

27. Install steering control levers (1) and (6) and tighten the bolts.

End By: Install the steering clutch and brake control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Clutch and Brake Control Valve - Release"
