Start By:

  1. Separate final drives, steering clutches, and brakes.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Sudden release of spring force can cause injury.

    To prevent the possibility of injury, follow the procedure to relieve the spring pressure.

    ----------------------


    NOTICE

    The brake contains springs that are under compression. The following steps must be followed exactly in order to disassemble the brake. Do not remove bolts (2) until bolts (3) have been slowly loosened and removed.


  1. Remove the four bolts, the washers, and plate (1) from the steering clutch and brake assembly. Do not remove bolts (2) at this time.

  1. Install Tooling (A) and attach a hoist. Remove brake (4) from steering clutch (5). The weight of the brake is 159 kg (350 lb).

    NOTICE

    Be sure that bolts (2) are tight before bolts (3) are removed. Bolts (3) are long enough to release the spring pressure behind retainer (6) if bolts (2) are in place and tight.


  1. Turn over brake (4). Evenly loosen ten bolts (3) in order to release the spring pressure behind retainer (6). Remove bolts (3) and retainer (6) .

  1. Remove six discs (7) and the five plates from brake housing (4) .

  1. Remove O-ring seal (8) from the housing.

  1. Turn over the brake and install Tooling (A). Remove seven bolts (2) and the washers. Use a soft hammer to remove brake housing (4) from the retainer. The weight of brake housing (4) is 73 kg (161 lb).

  1. Remove ring (9), two springs (11), and ring (12) from retainer (10) .

  1. Remove piston (13) from retainer (10) .

  1. Remove the seal ring from the inner diameter of piston (13) .

  1. Remove seal ring (15) from retainer (10) .

  1. Remove two ball bearings (14) from each side of retainer (10) .

  1. Remove two O-ring seals (16) from the brake housing.

  1. The weight of the steering clutch is 159 kg (350 lb). Remove four bolts (18) and the washers. Remove hub (17) .

  1. Use Tool (B) and remove retaining ring (23) .

  1. Remove bearing (19) and plate (20) from the steering clutch.

  1. Remove ten bolts and washers (21) and remove retainer (22) .

  1. Remove six discs (24) and the five plates from housing (25) .

  1. Install Tooling (C) in the piston. Remove piston (26) from the housing. The weight of piston (26) is 19.1 kg (42 lb).

  1. Remove the seal ring from the inner diameter of piston (26) .

  1. Install Tooling (A) and attach a hoist. Raise housing (25) and hub assembly (27) together and remove the wood blocks. The weight of housing (25) is 33.6 kg (74 lb). The weight of hub assembly (27) is 21 kg (46 lb).

  1. Lower housing (23) and remove hub assembly (27) .

  1. Turn over housing (25) and remove ring (28) .

  1. Use Tool (B) and remove retaining ring (29) from hub assembly (27) .

  1. Remove three seal rings (30) from the hub assembly.

  1. Remove O-ring seal (32) from the hub assembly.

  1. Use Tooling (D) and a press to remove plate (31) from the hub assembly.
