(1) When the assembly is complete, fill each hub to the plug level with 2P-9869 Oil (SAE 30W). ... 0.200 L (.2113 qt)
Note: To ensure that the surfaces that are being sealed are free of oil, grease, and fuel, wipe the surfaces with a rag that has been soaked in isopropyl alcohol.
(2) Apply 8C-8422 Sealant to the end of the hub assembly that is between the cover and hub assembly.
(3) The rubber toric seals and all surfaces that contact the seals must be clean and dry before assembly. Prior to assembly, apply a thin film of oil to the contacting surfaces of the metal seal rings. The seal rings must be assembled square with the bore and the toric ring. Bulging or twisting of the seal ring should not occur. Refer to Special Instruction, SEHS8463, "Installation Of Conventional Duo-Cone Seals".
(4) Torque for 4 bolts ... 530 ± 70 N·m (390 ± 50 lb ft)
(5) Torque for 24 bolts ... 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft)
Procedure for Setting Bearings for the Roller Group
- Bearing cone (7) must slide easily on the axle. Nut (8) must rotate freely on the threads that are located on the axle.
- Tighten nut (8) to a torque of 34 ± 7 N·m (25 ± 5 lb ft).
- Rotate hub (6) for three revolutions.
- Tighten nut (8) to a torque of 34 ± 7 N·m (25 ± 5 lb ft).
- Repeat step 3 and step 4.
- Bend lock tang (9) into the slot in locknut (8) .
Note: When lock tang (9) and nut (8) are not properly aligned, tighten nut (8) until the nearest slot aligns with lock tang (9) .
