Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the unit injector hydraulic pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Unit Injector Hydraulic Pump - Remove".

2. Remove the fan drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive - Remove".

1. Disconnect fuel temperature sensor (1) at the electrical connection.

2. Remove plate (2) and support assembly (3) from the engine.

3. Disconnect atmospheric pressure sensor (8) at the electrical connection. Disconnect turbocharger outlet pressure sensor (7) at the electrical connection.

4. Remove tie strap (5). Disconnect three hose assemblies (3), (4) and (6). Install caps and plugs on all connections in order to avoid system contamination.

5. Remove clip (9).

6. Put identification marks on four bolts (10) for installation purposes. Remove ten bolts (10) and two full nuts (12). Remove fuel pump gear cover (11) and the gasket.

7. Remove four twelve point head bolts (14), retaining plate (15) and front gear (13). If necessary, use Tooling (A) (not shown) in order to remove the stud from the engine. If necessary, use Tooling (A) (not shown) in order to remove the taperlock stud from fuel pump gear cover (11).

8. Disconnect two speed sensors (17) from the wire harnesses at the electrical connection. Remove two speed sensors (17) from the timing gear housing.

9. Remove four twelve point head bolts (18), pin (19) and the O-ring seal.

10. Remove unit injector hydraulic pump drive (16) from the engine.

11. Remove O-ring seals (20) from unit injector hydraulic pump drive (16).
