Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install
Removal Procedure
- Raise the engine hood.
- Make sure that the batteries have been disconnected.
- Remove four bolts (1) that secure cover (2) to the air conditioner condenser. Remove cover (2) from the air conditioner condenser.

- Remove tube clamp (3) from exhaust tube (4) .

- Remove tube clamp (5) from exhaust tube (4) .

- Remove exhaust tube (4) from the exhaust system.

- Remove nut (7) that secures throttle cable (9) to the fuel system. Remove two nuts (6) and U-bolt (8) that secures throttle cable (9) to the mounting bracket.

- Remove bolt (11) and cable clamp (10) that secures throttle cable (9) to the mounting bracket. Move throttle cable (9) aside. Remove bolt (12) and hose clamp (13) that secures hose (14) to the mounting bracket.

- Disconnect wires (15) from starter solenoid (16) . Move wires (15) aside. Disconnect wires (17) from starter (18) . Move wires (17) aside.

- Remove bolt (19) that secures mounting bracket (20) to the engine. Move mounting bracket (20) and wires (15) aside.

- Remove bolt (23) that secures cover (22) to starter solenoid (16) . Remove cover (22) from starter solenoid (16) in order to disconnect two wires (21) .

- Disconnect two wires (21) from starter solenoid (16) .
- Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to the starter and the starter solenoid, as shown. Remove three bolts (24) from starter (18) . Remove the starter and the starter solenoid from the engine as a unit. Remove the gasket from the starter. The combined weight of the starter and starter solenoid is 28 kg (62 lb) .

Installation Procedure
- Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
- Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to the starter and the starter solenoid, as shown. Install the gasket on the starter. Position the starter and the starter solenoid to the engine as a unit. Install three bolts (24) to secure starter (18) to the engine.

- Connect two wires (21) to starter solenoid (16) .

- Install cover (22) to starter solenoid (16) . Install bolt (23) that secures cover (22) to starter solenoid (16) .
- Position mounting bracket (20) to the engine. Install bolt (19) that secures mounting bracket (20) to the engine.

- Connect wires (17) to starter (18) . Connect wires (15) to starter solenoid (16) .

- Install bolt (12) and hose clamp (13) that secures hose (14) to the mounting bracket. Install bolt (11) and cable clamp (10) that secures throttle cable (9) to the mounting bracket.

- Position throttle cable (9) to the mounting bracket and to the fuel system. Install nut (7) that secures throttle cable (9) to the fuel system. Install two nuts (6) and U-bolt (8) that secures throttle cable (9) to the mounting bracket.

- Position exhaust tube (4) to the exhaust system.

- Close the engine hood.
