Assembly Procedure

1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

2. Install shaft (17) to the piston pump assembly.

3. Position gasket (16) on the cover, as shown. Install housing (14) and the piston pump assembly to cover (13).

4. Install the chain link. Install clip (15). Use a rubber mallet to tap cover (13) and housing (14) together.

5. Install four bolts (12) that secure cover (13) to the housing. Use torque wrench (C) to tighten bolts to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

6. Install spring (10) and collar (11) to the piston pump assembly.

7. Position gasket (9) on the piston pump assembly, as shown.

8. Use retaining ring pliers (A) to install retaining ring (5). Install the retaining ring into the groove in the center bore of the cover. Use driver group (B) to install shaft seal (8) to cover (7). Tap the driver until the seal reaches a positive stop against the retaining ring.

9. Position cover (7) onto the housing. Slowly compress the spring under the cover. Install four bolts (6) that secure cover (7) to the piston pump assembly. Use torque wrench (C) to tighten the bolts to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

10. Install three O-ring seals (4) between the pressure compensator valve and the piston pump.

11. Install four bolts (3) that secure the pressure compensator valve to the piston pump. Use torque wrench (D) to tighten bolts to 7 ± .3 N·m (62 ± 2.5 lb in). Install O-ring seal (1) to piston pump (2).

End By:

1. Install the piston pump to the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pump (Brake) - Install".
