Problem:
There have been some complaints of the parking brake producing a sharp metallic grinding noise during operation or roading. The noise is described as metal to metal contact. The noise is created when the parking brake pads vibrate against the rotor disc. Although it is normal for the parking brake pads to move slightly when they are applied, they should not generate any noticeable noise. This noise exists, it can be both annoying and unacceptable to the operator.
Solution:
We have investigated the reason for this condition and currently do not have a final solution at this time. If a tractor exhibits this noise, springs can be added to keep the parking brake separated. Add one 134-3770 Spring (1) onto each of 3W-5709 Rods (2) of the 8R-8471 Brake Gp which hold the two parknig brake pads in position. See Illustraiton 1 for more detail. The two Springs (1) should sufficiently separate the two parking brake pads evenly from the rotor disc and reduce the chances for oscillation and noise.
