Replacing Multiple Row Modules (MRM) With Improved Multiple Row Modules (IMRM) Can Result In Coolant Leaks

Usage:

TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS

AGRICULTURAL TRACTORS

WHEEL LOADERS

WHEEL-TRACTOR SCRAPERS

D4H TRACTORS (8PB),
CHALLENGER 65 TRACTORS (7YC),
CHALLENGER 75 TRACTORS (4CJ),
936E WHEEL LOADERS (43Z, 45Z, 4SB),
627E SCRAPERS (6HB, 3WJ),
637E SCRAPERS (1HB, 1LB, 7CB),
657E SCRAPERS (86Z, 87Z, 6MB)

Problem:

Many of the MRMs have been canceled and replaced with IMRMs. The IMRMs have locating pins similar to folder core modules. The pins control the assembly orientation of the modules. Some machines have radiator top and bottom tanks that will interfere with the locating pins when assembled. This can result in coolant leaks.

Solution:

IMRM cores are now used in production of D4H Tractors and 936E Loaders. However, earlier D4H Tractors equipped with 5N9415 Folded Core Radiator Bottom Tank, and 936E Loaders equipped with 7E6608 or 9Y0612 Bottom Tanks will have module end tank interference problems when coversion to 4P0890 IRMR Cores is attempted. A new parts and service IMRM will be released to resolve this problem. In the mean time, the problem can be resolved by rotating each module 180 degrees from its normal position so that the center tab is on the fan side of the radiator. Any new production machines built with IMRM cores will have new radiator tanks that are compatible with the 4P0890 IMRM Cores. Illustration 1 shows the correct orientation of MRM cores in a 936E Loader radiator. Illustration 2 shows the correct orientation of IMRM cores in the same radiator.

When replacing only some of the MRM modules in a radiator, invert any MRM cores that are not being replaced from their normal position. This will position their center tabs on the fan slide and allow all the cores to be bolted together with strap assemblies. Do NOT rotate the two condenser modules from their original position. Illustration 3 show MRM cores inverted from their normal position to locate the center tab at the rear.

NOTE: On D4H Tractors equipped with a reversible fan, it will NOT be possible to reverse the fan in the tractor as usual when the 4P0890 IMRM Cores have been installed with the tabs toward the rear.

Folded core radiators are standard on 627E, 637E, 657E Scraper, and Challenger 65 Tractor engines. MRM cores are available as an attachment. Challenger 75 Tractors offer only folded core radiators, but they can be converted in the "field" to MRM cores. These scrapers and tractors have radiator top and bottom tanks that are NOT compatible with current IMRM cores. New IMRM cores will be released to correct this problem. Currently, the problem can be resolved in hte same way as desribed for D4H Tractors and 936E Loaders.

All conversion to IMRM cores should use the new 4P9942 and 4P9943 Coolant Seals. If new coolant seals are installed, the 7E2308 Supports must be removed.

The part numbers of new parts and service IMRM cores will be published as they become available.
