Rework Procedure for removing rust from pins/clamp cylinder area/machined surfaces. |
Note: Please read all of the steps before start of this Rework Procedure. Note: The operator should wear a helmet, gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and safety shoes, while completing this Rework Procedure. Preparation for Rework Procedure: 1. Park the machine on a level surface. If you must park on a grade, chock the machine. 2. Apply the service brake in order to stop the machine. Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position. 3. Move the speed control lever to the LOW IDLE position. 4. Engage the parking brake. 5. Engage the transmission neutral lock. 6. Lower all work tools to the ground. 7. Stop the engine using engine shut-off cable. 8. Move the hydraulic control levers back and forth in order to relieve hydraulic pressure. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release", for additional information. 9. Turn the engine start switch to OFF position and remove the key. Rework Procedure: 1. Inspect all the pins and machined surface area for any rust on the machine. 2. Sand the rust surface area with the help of sand papers (grit size 400) until a rust free surface appears visibly. Refer to Image1.2.1. Note: Ensure that the adjacent painted surfaces are not damaged. |

3. Wipe the sanded area with a lint free cloth and ensure that there is no dirt/lint on the surface. Refer to Image1.3.1. |

4. Use Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to wipe the sanded surface and then air blow. Refer to Image1.4.1. |

5. Stir the rust preventive oil well before applying. 6. Apply the rust preventive oil at sanded area using 16mm brush. Refer to Image1.5.1. |

7. Wipe off any the rust preventive oil spread over an adjacent surface. 8. Allow the coated surface to dry for at least 60 minutes. Note: Bonderite L-GP 4141 is available from Henkel/Loctite through the Cat Dealer Program at http://proloctite.com/caterpillar. |
