Battery discharge can be attributed mostly to machines not being operated for an extended period of time or being operated without sufficient battery charging time.

It is normal for the electronic control modules used in row crop tractors to draw 21 mA of discharge current when the engine is not running. Also, it is normal for the electronic control module used for tillage tractors to draw 7 mA of discharge current when the engine is not running. The current draw will discharge the batteries to a level that significantly degrades the starting capabilities of the machines after approximately 40 days for row crop tractors and 100 days for tillage tractors.

It is recommended that you operate the engine above low idle in order to increase the alternator output and replenish the battery's voltage. Improved battery life can also be obtained, when a machine is not operated for extended periods, by simply disconnecting the batteries. A master disconnect switch is available for Challenger 65E (6GS), Challenger 75E (6HS), Challenger 85E (6JS), and Challenger 95E (6KS) Agricultural Tractors.
