Description of Change: New scraper springs for the CS-431CA, CS-433C, CB-434B, CB-434C, CB-534C and CB-634C Asphalt Compactors offer improved service life. The former 124-9077 Springs have been replaced by the new 165-5392 Springs and 147-8473 Backing Plates. The new springs are wider and use a backing plate under the spring. This transfers the bending load from the slotted area of the spring, to the solid portion of the spring beyond the slot.
The adjustment slot at the scraper blade has been eliminated so all adjustment of the scraper is done at its mounting point to the frame or at the bumper assembly. A new adjustment procedure should be followed when installing or adjusting the scrapers.
NOTE: When replacing the 124-9077 Springs, all springs on a single scraper assembly must be replaced at the same time. The new 165-5392 Springs with 147-8473 Backing Plates cannot be mixed with the former 124-9077 Springs on the same scraper assembly.
Effectivity: The change is effective with 4DN342-Up, 5HN484-Up, 3BR331-Up, 9XL234-Up and 2JM1XXX-Up.
Adaptable To: The new springs are Adaptable To: 4DN1-341, 5HN1-483, 3BR1-330, 6AL1-Up, 9XL1-233 and 2JM1-XXX.
Rework Procedure:
NOTE: The following diagrams and procedure pertains to all machines:
CS-431CA
CB-433CA
CB-434B (AL)
CB-434C (-)
CB-534C
CB-634C
1. Remove old scrapers and remove springs from the assemblies.
2. Attach new springs to the scraper blade and install it on the machine. Per illustration. Pull the scraper back as far as possible and snug the mounting bolts. DO NOT torque at this time.
NOTE: When installing the backup plate, be sure the plate is oriented so the plate completely covers the slots in the springs.
NOTE: Some of the mounting bolt part numbers changed due to the need for longer bolts. Please reference the appropriate illustration for your machine.
3. Loosen the inside row of mounting bolts (closest to drum) one and one half turns. Loosen the outside row of bolts far enough to allow the scraper to move.
4. Push the scraper assembly towards the drum until the scraper blade just contacts the drum without deflection.
5. Tighten the inside row of bolts first, followed by the outside row of bolts. Torque to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).
