Usage:
D400D (8TF),
D350E (9LR),
D400E (2YR) Articulated Trucks
Description of Change: The joint between the spider differential housing and the differential housing has been improved.
Adaptable To: The new 1D-4572 Bolt (3) (which does not have a hole through the bolt head) is a direct replacement for the former 7U-1272 Bolt (which is canceled) and the 5P-6026 Lockwire on the 122-3341 Differential Group. The joint (shown in the Illustration) is also improved by adding either 4C-9506 Compound (10 ml or .33 oz) or 4C-9507 Compound (50 ml or 1.66 oz) to the flange between the 7U-1232 Spider Differential Housing (1) and the 118-7516 Differential Housing (2).
The flange area to be treated with the compound should be cleaned and free of oil and grease. Then the compound should be applied evenly but sparingly to either of the mating parts. Assemble the mating parts.
Wipe off the excess compound after assembly. The compound should be allowed to cure before installation into the output transfer gear group. Curing time for the compound is two hours. Cure time can be reduced to one hour by using the 122-3781 Quick Cure Primer as a cleaning and priming agent prior to applying the compound.
These changes are effective with D350E (9LR620) and D400E (2YR1029) Articulated Trucks and are adaptable to earlier machines including the D400D (8TF1-Up) Articulated Trucks. The new bolts should be tightened to a torque of 85 - 115 N·m (63 - 85 lb ft) and then turned an additional 120 degrees.
The compound should only be added to the flange area A between the mating parts as depicted by the arrow.
