Description of Change: A new drive wheel assembly is now used. The new drive wheel assembly will have an improved useful life, particularly in applications that produce high vertical loads. The previous design experienced fatigue failure in the weld area of the rim under high vertical load applications.
Adaptable To: The new 1R-1171 Wheel Assembly replaces the 1R-1094 Wheel Assembly effective with the Challenger 65C (2ZJ1835), Challenger 70C (2YL1310), Challenger 75C (4KK2092), and Challenger 85C (9TK1620) Agricultural Tractors. The new wheel assembly is directly adaptable to all machines in sets or as individual wheels. To avoid belt tracking problems, new wheels should not be paired with old wheels worn to less than 8 mm (.31 in) of groove depth.
The new drive wheel can be identified by the increased bend radius in the area that forms the outer edge of the rim. The new drive wheel has the rim and wheel butt welded together rather than an overlapping weld. The 1R-1171 Wheel Assembly is molded into the edge of the rubber coating on the wheel.
NOTE: On Challenger 65 and Challenger 65B (7YC1-2084) Agricultural Tractors with external (caliper) brakes and caliper guards installed, there may be interference between the inside of the wheel assembly and the caliper guard. Remove the material from the caliper guard to provide the necessary clearance to adapt the wheels to this configuration.
