Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS9820, Ordering "Series B" Replacement Cylinder Blocks for 3500 Series Engines
The 3500 Series "B" (electronic engines) have been introduced. Series "B" cylinder blocks are the only blocks currently being processed. The former Series "A" blocks will be canceled and replaced with Series "B" cylinder blocks. These new Series "B" blocks will service both Series "A" and Series "B" engines.
The new block is not directly interchangeable with the former block without ordering additional parts. The changes to the new block and its related parts include the following:
-
- * A new cam bore diameter.
- * The hole pattern and shaft diameter of the cam idler gear stub has changed.
- * The rear gear assembly has an eight pitch gear. The former ten pitch gear cannot be used with the new block because of the larger stub shaft diameter.
- * A new cam bore diameter.
Depending upon what configuration engine you have, the components required when ordering a replacement block vary. See the Reference Special Instruction for complete ordering information.
