Procedure To Fill And Check Oil Level In Vibratory Compactor Drum{6605}

Usage:

CS-551 (6ZD1-Up),
CS-553 (7AD1-Up),
CP-553 (7BD1-Up) Vibratory Compactors

Reference: Service Magazine; November 6, 1989; Page 10; "Drum Sight Glass (Gauge) Can Be Replaced With Plug".

The sight gauge on the above vibratory compactors has been replaced with a plug when the glass in the sight gauge experienced repeated breakage. The procedure for filling the drum and checking the oil level for the weight shaft bearings in the reference article has been revised.

Use the following procedure to fill and check the oil level in the drum. Refer to the illustration.

1. Turn the drum so that rod (3) or plug (2) is at the 6 O'clock position.

2. Remove plug (1) which is at the 12 O'clock position.

3. Use the opening where plug (1) was removed to fill the drum. Fill with the amount of oil specified in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

4. Reinstall plug (1).

5. Rotate the drum 180 degrees and allow the drum to sit in this position for a minimum of 5 minutes.

6. Rotate the drum so rod (3) or plug (2) is at 6 O'clock.

7. Remove plug (2) to check oil level in drum. If oil level is low, fill to proper level and repeat steps 5,6 and 7.
