Usage:
Start By:
a. remove fuel injection lines
1. Remove timing pin (1) and bolt(4). Remove cover (2) from the flywheel housing.
2. Remove plug (3).
3. Use tool (A) to turn the engine in a counterclockwise direction (as seen from the flywheel end of the engine) until the number 1 piston is at top center on compression stroke. Install timing pin (1) in the flywheel. See FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION POSITION FOR NUMBER 1 PISTON, SYSTEMS OPERATION TESTING AND ADJUSTING.
4. Remove the plug from the front of the injection pump housing. Install tool (B) (end with taper) through the hole in the pump housing and into the timing notch in the fuel injection pump camshaft.
5. If timing is correct, tool (B) will go into the notch in the fuel injection pump camshaft and the timing pin will turn freely. into the threaded hole in the flywheel. If timing is not correct, remove tool (B) and the timing bolt and do the following procedure.
a. Remove cover (5) from the automatic timing advance cover.
b. Make sure tool (B) is removed from the fuel injection pump camshaft. Loosen four bolts which hold the automatic timing advance unit on the fuel pump camshaft.
c. Tighten the bolts with fingers until there is a small amount of friction (slight drag) between the retainer and the timing advance unit. This will prevent movement (backlash) when the gears are turned to the correct timing.
d. Use Tooling (A) to turn the engine in a counterclockwise direction (as seen from the flywheel end) until tooling (B) can be installed in the fuel injection pump camshaft.
e. Use tooling (A) to turn the engine in a clockwise direction (as seen from the flywheel end) a minimum of 30 degrees to remove the movement (backlash) in the timing gears.
f. Use tooling (A) to turn the engine in a counterclockwise direction (as seen from the flywheel end) until the number one piston is at top center compression stroke. Install the timing bolt in the flywheel.
g. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 25 N·m (20 lb ft). Remove tooling (B) from the fuel injection pump camshaft.
h. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135 ± 7 N·m (100 ± 5 lb ft). Remove timing pin pin (1) from flywheel.
6. Turn the engine two complete revolutions and check the timing again. If tooling (B) will not go into the notch of the fuel injection pump camshaft, do steps a through h again.
7. Disconnect fuel lines (7) and (9) from the fuel transfer pump.
8. Remove clip (8) (not shown) from the fuel injection pump housing.
9. Disconnect hose assembly (6) from the fuel ration control.
10. Disconnect fuel lines (10) and (12) from the fuel injection pump housing.
11. Disconnect wires (11) from the shutoff solenoid. Remove clip (13) from the fuel injection pump housing and pull the wires clear.
12. Remove the cover from the automatic timing advance cover. Remove tooling (B) from the notch in the fuel injection pump camshaft. Remove four bolts and remove retainer (14) from the automatic timing advance. Install tool (B) in the notch of the fuel injection pump camshaft.
13. Remove bracket (15) and bolts (16) from the right side of the fuel injection pump housing.
14. Remove bracket (17) and bolts (18) from the left side of the fuel injection pump housing.
15. Fasten tooling (C) to the fuel injection pump housing with two 3/81/4 " - 16 NC 2 inch longbolts. Fasten a hoist to tooling (C). Remove fuel injection pump housing and governor (19). The weight of the fuel injection pump housing and governor is 65 kg (145 lb).
Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor
1. Check O-ring seal (1) for wear or damage. If necessary, make a replacement. Put a small amount of 1P808 General Purpose Grease on the O-ring seal.
2. Install tooling (B) in the notch of the fuel injection pump camshaft.
3. Fasten tooling (C) to the fuel injection pump housing with two 3/81/4 " - 16 NC X 2 inch longbolt. Fasten a hoist to tooling (C). Put fuel injection pump housing and governor (2) in position on the top of the engine.
4. Install the brackets (3) and bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing in position.
5. Install retainer (4) on the automatic timing advance. Tighten the bolts that hold it with fingers only.
6. Connect wires (6) to the shut-off solenoid. Install clip (7) on the fuel injection pump housing.
7. Connect fuel lines (5) to the fuel injection pump housing.
8. Connect hose assembly (9) to the fuel ratio control.
9. Connect fuel lines (8) and (10) to the fuel transfer pump. Install clips (11) that hold the fuel lines to the fuel injection pump housing.
10. Check the engine timing. See REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR, Steps 4 through 6.
11. Install covers (12) and (13) on the automatic timing advance cover.
12. Remove tooling (B). Install the plug in the fuel injection pump housing.
13. Remove tooling (A) Install the cover on the flywheel housing. Install the plug.
