Rework Procedure

WARNING

To avoid personal injury, extreme caution is advised while conducting this procedure. There are potential pinch points between the rear frame and platform structure when swivelling the access platform. There is also a hazard to personnel standing nearby. Use extreme caution when removing or slackening hydraulic fittings and bleed points as hydraulic fluid may be under potentially high pressure.

Procedure for Removal of Components from Converted Fixed and Existing Swivel Platforms

NOTE: Lifting equipment will be needed.

NOTE: Before proceeding with any work, make sure the access platform is on a firm and level surface.

Disconnect reel electric lead (1) from dummy storage plug.
Unbolt cable guide arm (2). This can be left hanging on the cable.
Disconnect multi pin plug (3) for main wiring harness from reel drum.
    Remove reel guard assembly (A).
Remove electric drum reel (4) from support post. This will require lifting equipment to handle safely.

Remove dummy plug assembly from support post (5).

Remove the 4 switch covers (6) from switch controls to expose connectors (7).
For the previously converted fixed platforms, swivel control switch (B) is attached to the wiring harness to the rear side of the frame.
Record where all wires are attached in each switch control, either by marking each wire, noting the wire colors, or making a diagram.
10. Once the positions of all wires in each switch control have been noted, remove all wires from their fixings.

11. Remove the sealed cable clamp fittings (8) at the bottom of each switch control box to allow the wires to pass through.

12. With all wires disconnected, carefully feed them through the sealed cable clamp fitting at the bottom of the switch boxes.

13. Pass the wire harnesses through the holes in the rear of the frame, with the rubber grommets (9). The grommets can be left on the harness.

14. Disconnect the plugs from swivel valve solenoid mounted above swivel motor (C). These will already be disconnected if previously converted to a fixed access platform.

15. Cut any plastic cable ties that are securing the wiring harness in order to remove the harness.

16. Remove all switch boxes from the frame.

17. Make sure that the platform is set square to the mounting frame and that the rear mount frame cannot swing around and trap you when disconnected. Place the drip tray below the actuator.

18. Once you have the platform in this position remove the 2 hydraulic outlet fittings (F) one at a time and fit the plug 1P-1458 as quickly as possible in order to stop the air from entering the actuator. It is now safe to remove the swivel rotate actuator (D) and the actuating valve (E) from the original swivel platform. These should have been retained if the swivel platform was reworked to a fixed structure.

19. Remove the nuts that retain the flip chart guides (11) and instruction sheets to the frame and remove them.

20. Use an electric drill to remove the pop rivets securing all the decals and the id plate to the frame.

21. With all pop rivets removed, carefully lift the decals from the frame. You may need to use a blade scrapper to help lift them. Be careful not to damage the decals.

Procedure for Installation of Components onto the Swivel Frame Platform

Refer to illustrations above and the drawing at the bottom.

Use thread lock where specified for bolts on the drawing.

NOTE: Lifting equipment will be required. Before assembling the actuator, tap out all the holes in the top and bottom using a 3/8" UNC Tap in order to clean the holes.

Assemble the actuator with parts as shown in the above illustration.

NOTE: All bolts used in the assembly of the actuator plates and for securing it to the frame require an application of Loctite/Thread Lock. As noted in removal of the actuator, position of the access platform needs to be square to the mounting frame. This is necessary to get full rotation in both directions. When assembling the new plates, you need to line up the hydraulic outlets with one of the lower mounting holes in the 266-7416 Plate as shown in the above illustration. Failure to do this will not allow full rotation in one direction.

Once you have fitted the bottom plate, you can assemble the 2 top plates. The mounting holes and the hydraulic outlets also need to be lined up on the top plates.

NOTE: It may help at this stage not to tighten up these 12 bolts until you have the valve and related tubes fitted as shown above. This will help with alignment for the 2 hydraulic tubes between the valve and actuator. Refer to Illustration 270-2012 for full details of all components used in this area.

With the platform set square to the mounting frame, install the swivel rotate actuator assembly onto the platform structure with the six bolts provided. Fit the 268-1047 Top Bracket over the actuator assembly and secure to the rear frame with 8T-4184 Bolts. Fit the 268-7685 Plate to the top of the actuator assembly. Use Loctite/Threadlock on all of these bolts.

Fit new 148-8326 Connectors and 148-8368 Elbows to the valve. Loosen the bolt that secures solenoids (G) and rotate through 180 degrees. Then re-tighten the bolt.

Mount actuating valve (E) to the 268-7660 Plate.

Remove the 2 1P-1458 Plugs from the actuator, that were fitted earlier, and fit the 2 148-8326 Connectors.

Fit the 271-7087 and 271-7088 Tube Assemblies between the actuator and valve.

Assemble the 2 hoses with new hydraulic couplings at the machine end and 2 148-8351 Elbows at the other end. Fit these assemblies to the elbows on the other side of the valve. Secure these hoses with the hose clamps provided to the top of the mount frame.

Refit electric drum reel (4) using the original 2 rear bolts with 8T-4121 Washers and 8T-4133 Nuts. This will require lifting equipment to handle this safely.

Refit the reel guard assembly (A) with the 2 8T-3844 Bolts, 8T-4121 Washers and 8T-4133 Nuts to the post.

Refit dummy plug (5) onto support post.

Refit cable guide arm (2) to support plate.

Reconnect reel electric lead (1) onto dummy storage plug.

Refit all switch boxes back onto frame, including the swivel control box with original screws and new nuts and large diameter washers supplied.

Pass the wire harnesses through the holes in the rear of the frame and fit the grommets (9) into the holes in the back plate.

Carefully feed them up through the sealed cable clamp fittings (8) in the bottom of the switch boxes.

Reconnect the wires in each switch control (7) in the locations recorded when you removed them.

With the wires connected, make sure they are all positioned securely and then refit the sealed cable clamps (8) and lock into position.

Refit all switch covers (6) onto the switch control boxes.

Reconnect multi pin plug (3) for main wiring harness onto the reel drum.

For platforms that were converted to fixed structures you will need to remove the dummy plugs (2 x 155-2270 and 2 x 102-8802 with the 4 x 8T-8737seals) from the 2 leads that were connected to the swivel solenoid and the 2 left on the solenoids.

You will need to use electrical extension leads 271-7828 to reconnect the solenoids to the main harness.

Route the electrical harness across the frame, up the post, to the reel. Secure to all of the chain links with plastic cable ties. Refer to illustration above.

Refit the old decals and serial identification plate onto the frame with pop rivets. Refer to the illustration above.

Secure the flip chart guides (11) and instruction sheets to the frame, at the same time install the new load charts supplied.

If fitted, you will need to remove bracket (H) from the rear mount frame and pin (J) from the platform structure; these are not required on Series I Access Platforms.

Finally, attach the Swivel Access Platform to the Telehandler and carry out a complete operation check.

First you need to remove the air from the system.

WARNING.

To avoid personal injury, extreme caution is advised while conducting this procedure. There are potential pinch points between the rear frame and platform structure when swivelling the access platform. Also there is a hazard to personnel standing nearby. Use extreme caution when removing or loosening hydraulic fittings. Hydraulic fluid may be under potentially high pressure.

To remove the air from the hydraulic system, place the drip tray below the actuator and loosen both fittings of the 271-7087 and 271-7088 Tube Assemblies where they connect to the actuator. Operate the swivel controls and rotate fully to one side. Hydraulic oil and air will start to be purged from one of the tube assemblies. Continue to pressurize the system until all traces of air is flushed from this pipe. Tighten this fitting. Repeat the procedure by rotating fully in the opposite direction. Hydraulic oil and air will start to be purged from the other tube assembly. Flush all of the air out and then tighten the fitting.

Next you need to loosen both of the bleed screws (maximum of one turn) on the opposite side of the actuator. Operate the swivel controls to rotate the platform completely to the end of its rotation and then maintain hydraulic pressure. Oil with small air bubbles may be seen. Continue to pressurize the platform in the same direction until approximately 2.5Lt (1/2 gal.) has been purged from the actuator.

Keep the fittings open and rotate fully in the opposite direction. Repeat the same procedure as above. After 2.5Lt (1/2 gal.) has been purged, close both of the bleed screws before rotating away from the end position. Finally rotate the platform fully in both directions 3 times.

After removing the air, the backlash measured at the outer corner should not exceed 150mm (6"). If the backlash limit is not met, repeat the air removal procedure for the actuator.

Once the air has been removed from the system, perform a full functional operation check.

For full operating instructions refer to your telehandlers Operation and Maintenance Manual.

If the platform will not swing fully in one direction this is probably due to the 266-7416 Plate not being bolted in the correct orientation. If this has happened, you will need to remove the actuator and turn the plate and realign with the next hole. When carrying out this functional check, make sure that the 2 hydraulic hoses and the electrical harness that connect to the Telehandler are not strained, stretched or trapped throughout the complete working range of the access platform.

After all the above rework has been carried out, the old platform must be destroyed and properly disposed of. The old platform is never to be reused.

Finally when all rework is completed you need to hand to the operator/owner the new Operation and Maintenance Manual. Provide Operation and Maintenance Manual SEBU7370 for TH63 and TH83 Telehandlers, and provide Operation and Maintenance Manual SEBU7371 for TH103 Telehandlers. In addition, the decal illustration page and the relevant translation information for the new "Additional Safety Messages" need to be stapled inside of the new Operation and Maintenance Manual. This information is at the end of the Rework Procedure. There is one page showing the decals and one page of text describing the decals warning. Languages available are English, Spanish, French, German, Finnish, Polish and Italian.
