Rework Procedure
The following (27) machines are in the suspect serial number range and according to factory MSO information contain the 1191088 Front Axle Arrangement (Fixed) that may have the wrong configuration sun shafts installed:
5FN253, 254, 255, 257, 262, 264, 265, 266, 268, 270, 271, 273, 274, 275, 276, 277, 278, 279, 280, 282, 284, 285, 288, 289, 293, 294, 295.
1. Remove the front axle arrangement (fixed) according to 816F Landfill Compactor Disassembly and Assembly Manual, SENR1300-00. Refer to Front Axle Housing Group (Fixed). Drain the oil from the axle.
2. Position the axle arrangement according to 816F Landfill Compactor Disassembly and Assembly Manual, SENR1300-00. Refer to Axle Shaft Assemblies section.
3. Remove the (26) bolts that retain the axle shaft housing to the center section of the axle arrangement.
4. The correct sun shaft configuration for a 816F Landfill Compactor with the 1191088 attachment fixed axle (no spin differential) is a 1191098 Shaft - Two Piece and 1191097 Gear. If the axle group contains a one piece 9U2786 Shaft discard and replace with two piece configuration.
5. Remove the planet carrier assembly and check the part number on the carrier assembly. 1191096 Carrier is the correct carrier number.
6. Clean the mounting surfaces on both the shaft housing assembly and the center housing assembly, apply 6V6640 Gasket Maker. Reassemble the axle shaft assembly to the center housing assembly tightening the (26) bolts to a torque of 300 + 40 N·m (220 ± 30 lb ft).
7. Turn the axle arrangement 180 degree and repeat the process for the opposite side.
8. Reassemble the axle arrangement to the front frame.
9. Refill the front axle arrangement with 47 liters (12.2 gallons) Caterpillar TDTO oil.
