Usage:
All Series G, and 120B, 140B Motor Graders
The blade on motor graders has upper and lower rails which hold it in the brackets when the blade is shifted from side to side. Each bracket has wear strips to support the blade rails, with shims installed between the wear strips and bracket. See illustration inset. A different procedure is now used to adjust the clearance between the blade rails and wear strips.
Location of shims and wear strips for the blade rails.
The shims are divided as equally as possible between the top and bottom wear strips. (See procedure that follows.) This method of adjustment centers the blade in the brackets and gives longer life to the wear strips and the retainer plates at the ends of the strips.
The new method of adjustment can be used on all Series G Motor Graders, and on earlier motor graders using either of the following wear strips.
The adjustment procedure is:
1. Remove the top and bottom wear strips and all shims.
2. Install the wear strips (used or new) with NO shims.
3. While shifting the blade through the full range of movement, measure clearances at various positions. Write down the minimum amount of clearance.
4. Divide this minimum clearance by two. From this figure, subtract 0.25 mm ± 0.2 mm (.010 ± .008"). This is the amount of shims needed at each wear strip.
5. Install the quantity of shims from Step 4 between each wear strip at the top and bottom of the blade rail bracket. It is permissible to use more or less than the number of shims listed in the Parts Books. The shims available are:
6. Shift the blade through the full range of travel to ensure the blade does not bind.
