Operator Console Group Improved{5200}

Usage:

120G, 130G, 140G, 12G, 14G, 16G Motor Graders

Reports indicate that some of the above machines that are equipped with a 5T7696 Operator Console Group have experienced difficulties either keeping the operator console in the desired position, or moving the operator console to the desired location. The probable causes for this are:

1. The cylinder rod inside the console is broken.
2. The cylinder does not have the correct adjustment.

Cylinder rod breakage is usually caused by excessive force on the 6G8812 Levers. See Illustration 1. This has been corrected by replacing the two 6G8812 Levers with one 8W2666 Lever and one 8W2968 Spacer. See Illustration 2.

Incorrect adjustment of the cylinder can be caused by loosening of the 6L1962 Nut (brass) on the cylinder rod. See Illustration 1. A 5B9079 Nut (steel) is now used to help prevent loosening. See Illustration 2.

The chart lists the new components that are required to improve the operator console. Use the installation procedure that follows to install the new components.

Installation Procedure:

NOTE: Use Illustrations 1 and 2 as an aid in this procedure.

1. Remove the 6G4944 and 6G4946 Plates from the right side of the console.

2. Remove the 3B4607 Cotter and 6B6780 Pin from the bottom of the 6G8808 Cylinder. Loosen 6L1962 Nut on cylinder rod and turn cylinder rod out of 5T4731 Retainer Assembly. Be careful not to lose the 9M5590 Ball when the cylinder rod is removed from the retainer assembly.

3. If the 6G8808 Cylinder has failed, replace it.

4. Remove the 6L1962 Nut (brass) from the cylinder rod and install a 5B9079 Nut (steel) on the cylinder rod along with the 5P1075 and 8N4183 Washers. Apply a small amount of grease on 9M5590 Ball and put the ball in the retainer assembly. The grease will temporarily keep the ball in the retainer assembly. Turn the cylinder rod into the 5T4731 Retainer Assembly until the valve stem in the end of the cylinder rod makes contact with the 9M5590 Ball. Loosen the cylinder rod one complete turn and tighten the 5B9079 Nut. The cylinder can be turned for alignment after the nut is tightened. Connect the lower end of the 6G8808 Cylinder to the console and install the 6B6780 Pin and 3B4607 Cotter Key.

5. Remove the 2G8573 Cap, 8L5202 Bolt, 3P9900 Washer, 6G8812 Lever and 1B8702 Key from each end of the 6G8809 Shaft.

6. Install a 1B8702 Key, 8W2666 Lever, 3P9900 Washer, 8L5202 Bolt and 2G8573 Cap on the left end of the 6G8809 Shaft.

7. Install a 8W2968 Spacer, 3P9900 Washer, 8L5202 Bolt and 2G8573 Cap on the right end of the shaft.

8. Check the operation of the console and replace the 6G4946 and 6G4944 Plates on the right side of the console.
