A modification has been made to the 114-2410 Digital Pyrometer which increased the shelf life of the battery from approximately 1.5 years to 5 years when the pyrometer is in the OFF state. This shelf life will decrease with increasing ambient temperatures. This modification is effective with 114-2410 Digital Pyrometer serial numbers 4018-Up.
A field modification procedure has been developed that can be carried out by the service technician the next time the pyrometer batteries are changed. This modification procedure is adaptable to 114-2410 Digital Pyrometer serial numbers 3001 through 4017.
Modification Procedure
1. Loosen the four screws through the front keypad so that the device comes apart.
2. Remove the three batteries from their sockets.
3. Remove the three small screws holding the circuit board to the front keypad plate. DO NOT LOOSE THESE SCREWS.
4. On the display side of the board, locate resistor R11B in the lower left corner of the board. Using small wire cutters, carefully cut the leads at each end of the resistor R11B and remove the resistor. Use care not to damage or contact the resistor R11C which is immediately above the resistor being removed.
5. Reassemble the circuit board to the keypad plate with the three small screws (6-32) retained from Step 3.
6. Install three new batteries [Duracell PX28L, Sanyo 2CR-1/3N (Altronic 601248)], taking note of the correct polarity.
7. Reassemble the pyrometer and secure the four screws through the front keypad.
