Usage:
All G3500 Engines
Reference: Service Manual Module, SENR6419-02, Disassembly & Assembly, G3500 Engines; Pages 105 and 106, "Remove & Install Cylinder Head Assemblies". This module is found in Service Manual, SENR6415, "G3508, G3512, G3516 Engines".
To help prevent failure of cylinder head bolts, the bolts must be installed correctly. Step 14 in the REFERENCE is incorrect. Step 14 on pages 105 and 106 should be changed to the following:
NOTE: Use this procedure for tightening the cylinder head bolts on all G3500 Engines.

Cleaning agents may contain chlorine that will cause stress corrosion on bolt heads. This can result in failure of the bolt. Use the appropriate cleaning procedure for bolts.

14. Clean the cylinder head bolts with a wire brush. Wipe the bolts with a dry cloth. Coat the bolts with 6V-4876 Lubricant.
Liberally coat the entire surface of each bolt. Ensure that the radii area under the bolt head is coated.
Install the cylinder head bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts in the following sequence:
a. Tighten all of the bolts to a torque of 30 ± 5 N·m (22 ± 4 lb ft).
b. Tighten bolts 1 through 8 in the numbered sequence to a torque of 270 ± 35 N·m (200 ± 25 lb ft).
c. Tighten bolts 1 through 8 in the numbered sequence to a torque of 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).
d. Tighten bolts 9 and 10.
