Electronic Control Group (Data Booster) Available In Order To Enhance The Signal From The Electronic Control Module (ECM) To The Receiving Device{1408}

Usage:

3176C (2AW) Industrial;
3176B (9WK),
3196 (2XR),
3408C (8RG),
3412C (3JK) Marine Engines

Description of Change: An electronic control group (data booster) can be installed in the engine wiring harness on the above engines. The data booster is an external CAT Data Link signal booster. The data booster enhances the signal from the ECM to the receiving device, Engine Vision Interface Module (EVIM), Engine Monitoring System (EMS) or Computerized Monitoring System (CMS) displays.

Adaptable To: The 140-2588 Electronic Control Group (Data Booster) is adaptable to the above engines.

The following symptoms may indicate that a complete signal is not being transmitted:

* The display unit indicates an ERROR message.
* The tachometer needle jumps up and down from the current rpm to 0 rpm.
* An EE appears on the tachometer display.
* All four quad gauge needles move back and forth in unison with the tachometer needle. This problem should not be confused with a vessel wiring problem such as:

A broken wire or improper grounding

NOTE: For more information, refer to the Cat Data Link Troubleshooting procedure in this article.

1. Turn the power OFF to the engine ECM and display unit.

2. Remove the ECM connector-battery pin and reinsert it into pin-3 on the 4-pin DT connector B (2).

3. Remove the ECM connector +8 VDC pin and reinsert into pin-4 on the 4-pin DT connector B (2).

4. Remove the ECM connector (CAT Data+) pin and reinsert into pin-1 on the 4-pin DT connector B (2).

5. Remove the ECM connector (Cat Data-) pin and reinsert into pin-2 on the 4-pin DT connector B (2).

6. Insert the BLACK wire into the ECM connector-battery pin.

7. Insert the PINK wire into the ECM connector CAT Data+ pin.

8. Insert the WHITE wire into the ECM connector CAT Data- pin.

9. Insert the RED wire into the ECM connector +8 VDC supply pin.

10. Plug connector B (2) into connector A (1).

11. Apply power to the ECM.
