Be Sure To Correctly Tighten 1R-0712, 1R-0740, 1R-0749, 1R-0750, 1R-0751, 1R-0753, And 1R-0759 Fuel Filter Assemblies {1261}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Commercial Engines So Equipped

The 1R-0712, 1R-0740, 1R-0749, 1R-0750, 1R-0751, 1R-0753, And 1R-0759 Fuel Filter Assemblies require a slightly different installation procedure than most other "spin-on" filter assemblies in the Caterpillar system. Use the installation procedure that follows for these fuel filter assemblies only:

Installation Procedure For 1R-0712, 1R-0740, 1R-0749, 1R-0750, 1R-0751, 1R-0753, And 1R-0759 Fuel Filter Assemblies

NOTE: Step 4 of this procedure includes the information that is different from most other "spin-on" type filters.

1. Be sure the surface of the fuel filter base that contacts the fuel filter assembly seal is clean and free of foreign material.

2. Apply clean diesel fuel to the seal on the new fuel filter assembly.

NOTICE

Do NOT fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing them. The fuel would not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to the fuel system parts.

3. Install the new fuel filter assembly onto the fuel filter base until the seal on the fuel filter assembly contacts the fuel filter base.

4. Then tighten the fuel filter assembly ONE FULL TURN (360 degrees) by hand. Do not over tighten.
