Usage:

A. Summary of Features

1. Effective compactive effort is delivered by a total applied force of 8740 kg (19,272 lb.).
2. The 1120 mm (44 in.) wide drum provides efficient compaction of a 3050 mm (10 ft.) wide mat in three passes with adequate overlap.
3. Close compaction to walls and other obstacles is achieved by a narrow 50 mm (2 in.) side clearance on both sides of the drum. The CB-514, with tanks mounted above the drum, can compact up to an obstacle when approaching head on.
4. Eccentric weight bearings are oil bath lubricated.
5. Power is supplied by a fuel efficient 41 kW (55 hp) Deutz diesel engine.
6. Precision machined drums with beveled edges minimize mat blemishes.
7. The operator stays comfortable, thus productive, by a deluxe, adjustable bench type seat.
8. A 300 liter (80 gallon) plastic water tank provides longer operation between fills and eliminates rust contaminants. Tank has two filtration systems and electric pump maintains constant water pressure between fillups.
9. Secondary braking system automatically engages when machine is turned off, and if loss of hydraulic pressure occurs.
10. Excellent visibility to all four drum edges.
11. Full instrumentation keeps operator informed to all major functions of the roller.
12. Propel control allows the operator single lever control of infinitely variable speeds, forward and reverse.

B. Diesel Engine

1. Flywheel power at 2800 rpm - 41 kW (55 hp) Deutz F3L912D diesel engine.
a. Gross horsepower based on SAE J1349 standard conditions 25°C (77°F) and 100 kPa (29.61 in.) Hg. using 35 API gravity fuel and engine equipped with fuel, lube oil, and water jacket pumps. No derating required up to 1000 m (3280 ft.) altitude.
2. 4 stroke-cycle diesel engine with 3 cylinders, 100 mm (3.94 in.) bore, 120 mm (4.72 in.) stroke, and 2.83 liters (172.7 cu. in.) displacement.
3. Air cleaner, dry type.
4. 12 volt electric starting system with 55 amp alternator.

C. Transmission

1. Propulsion of the machine is achieved by a variable displacement piston pump supplying pressure flow to motors driving the drums. Single lever on operator's console hydrostatically controls the machine's infinitely variable speed in both forward and reverse.
2. Working and travel speed = 0-8 km/hr (0-5 mph).
3. Gross gradeability* = 40%

*Gross gradeability is a calculated rating of unit's forward tractive effort under ideal conditions. Actual gradeability will vary depending on actual job conditions.

D. Final Drives

1. Planetary, single reduction, torque hubs with a ratio of 5.29:1.

E. Frame

1. Frames are fabricated from heavy gauge steel plate and rolled sections. The front frame is joined to the rear frame at the articulation pivot. Articulation area of both frames are reinforced for long machine life. The two sections are joined by three hardened steel pins. Vertical pins provide the unit's steering and the self-aligning bushings provide oscillation of ±12°.

F. Steering

1. This unit is equipped with a hydraulic power assist system for smooth, firm machine handling.
2. Minimum turning radius.
a. Inside drum edge = 1730 mm (5 ft. - 8 in.).
b. Outside drum edge = 2850 mm (9 ft. - 4 in.).
3. Steering angle (each direction) = 50°.
4. Hydraulic system - two 76 mm (3 in.) bore, double-acting cylinders.
a. Output at 2500 rpm = 30.3 liters/min (8 gal/min).
b. Pressure relief setting = 13,790 kPa (2000 psi).

G. Brakes

1. Service Brake - Closed-loop hydrostatic drive system acts as a braking system during machine operation.
2. Secondary Braking System - Spring disc brake on rear drum is activated by loss of charge pressure or by a switch at console.

H. Service Refill Capacities

1. Fuel tank = 68 liters (18 gallons).
2. Crankcase = 9 liters (2.31 gallons).
3. Vibratory bearing lube reservoir = 9.5 liters (2.5 gallons).
4. Differential and final drives = .35 liters (.09 gallons).
5. Hydraulic system = 68 liters (18 gallons).

I. Operating Weight (Approximate)

N. Optional Equipment

1. Rollover protection structure (ROPS)
a. This ROPS is a two-post type that bolts onto the frame. This ROPS is designed to meet SAE recommended practice J1040c. No welding is required and can be field installed. This is also a FOPS structure (falling object protection).
2. Working light package
a. This package consists of a lighting system designed to illuminate the unit's working area under dim and dark conditions. Four variable adjustment flood type lights are positioned, two forward and two back. This system is intended for use under working conditions and not for highway transport purposes.
3. Special paint
a. Any single color of customer's choice. Due to O.S.H.A. regulations, Caterpillar cannot paint machines with paint containing lead or chromate pigments. Consult Cat before commiting to special paints.
4. Cocoa mats
a. Cocoa mats provide an even flow of water over the drum surface with a mild cleaning action. Four mats are included, two per drum, and run the full length of the drums' width. System includes a latch used to hold the mats away from the drums when the compactor is either not in use or during transport.
