Valve Lifters Can Be Removed Without Removing Cylinder Heads

3500 Family Of Engines

An additional way to remove the valve lifters is possible. The following procedure eliminates the time and effort required to remove the cylinder heads, and is applicable to all 3500 engines.

Procedure To Remove Valve Lifters Without Removing Cylinder Heads

1. Follow the "Remove Camshaft" procedure in the appropriate Disassembly And Assembly Module.

2. With the camshaft removed, pull the lifter assemblies (1) out of the cylinder head lifter bore. See the illustration.

3. Put the lifter assemblies in a container of clean engine oil prior to installation.

NOTE: Before the valve lifters are installed, replace any guide spring (2) which shows signs of excessive wear.

Follow the "Install Camshaft" procedure in the appropriate Disassembly And Assembly Module.
