Caterpillar has received field reports of XQ425 trailers being received by dealers with low oil level or water contamination in the trailer axles.
Solution
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility. |
Visually inspect the hub caps of the trailer axles to assess the condition of the oil. The oil should be clear and clean. The cap has a circle indicating minimum level for the oil fill. The oil level should be checked with the trailer sitting level from side to side.
Use the following procedure if the oil level is low.
- Remove the center rubber plug from the hub cap.
- Fill the axle through the center hole with SAE 90 oil until the oil level is up to the oil level indicator.
- Reinstall the center rubber plug.
Use the following procedure if there is water contamination of the oil level.
- Remove the hub cap and drain the contaminated oil.
- Flush the axle and bearing with SAE 90 oil.
- Reinstall the hub cap. Tighten to 34 +/- 6 Nm (25 +/- 5 lb-ft)
- Fill the axle through the center hole with SAE 90 oil until the oil level is up to the oil level indicator.
- Reinstall the center rubber plug.
