Front Axle - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the front wheels and tires.

  1. Engage the steering frame lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock".

  2. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic tank. Attach a suitable air supply to Tooling (A) and apply 172 kPa (25 psi) of air to pull a vacuum on the hydraulic system.

  3. Remove 12 bolts (2) and cover (1).

  4. Install two of Tooling (B) and attach a suitable lifting device to push plate assembly (3). The weight of front push plate assembly (3) is approximately 408kg (900 lb). Remove eight bolts (4) and push plate assembly (3).

  5. Disconnect hose assemblies (7), (9), and (11). Remove the O-ring seals and position the hose assemblies out of the way.

  6. Remove four bolts (6). Disconnect hose assembly (8), remove the O-ring seal, and position out of the way.

  7. Remove four bolts (10). Disconnect hose assembly (5) and remove the O-ring seal.

  8. Remove two bolts (13), the washers, and cover plate (12).

  9. Disconnect harness assembly (15).

  10. Remove bolts (17), (18), (19), and the washers. Position guard assembly (16), hose assembly (14), and hose assembly (5) out of the way.

  11. Remove nut (20) and washer (21). Remove strap assembly (22) and position the hose assemblies out of the way.

  12. Repeat steps 5 through 11 for the other side of the machine.

  13. Remove bolt (24), the washer, and clip (25).

  14. Disconnect hose assembly (23), remove the O-ring seal, and position out of the way.

  15. Disconnect hose assemblies (26) and (27), remove the O-ring seals, and position out of the way.

  16. Remove bolt (29), the washer, and clip (28). Disconnect hose assembly (30), remove the O-ring seal, and position out of the way.

  17. Lower the machine onto Tooling (D). Reposition Tooling (C) as shown in figure 11.

  18. Install two of Tooling (B) and attach a suitable lifting device to front axle assembly (31). The weight of front axle assembly (31) is approximately 1588 kg (3500 lb). Repeat for the other side of the machine.

  19. Use Tooling (C) to raise the machine and remove Tooling (D).

  20. Remove two bolts (32) and plate (33).

  21. Use suitable punch to remove Pin (34).

    Note: Note the quantity and orientation of spacers for installation purposes.

  22. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to remove front axle assembly (31) and the spacers, and position onto suitable cribbing. The weight of front axle assembly (31) is approximately 1588 kg (3500 lb).

  23. Remove two seals (35) and two bearings (36).

  24. Remove bearing (37).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install front axle assembly (31) in the reverse order of removal.
