Front Installation Procedure

Tooling  Front Crank Seal Tool Gp 
A  9S-8858  Nut  Tooling (A) can be used for both 142-5867 or 2W-1733 front crank seal designs.
142-5867 Crankshaft Seal has a key installation dimension of approximately 5.28mm which is set from the 6V-6142 Seal Installer. Reference specifications for dimension location.
The Wear Sleeve should be installed flush from end of crankshaft face.

  1. Clean the outside diameter of the crankshaft.

  2. Use Tooling (A) to install crankshaft front seal (1) and crankshaft wear sleeve (2) as a unit.

  3. For 2W-1733 Crankshaft Seal Gp, use 169-5464 Quick Cure Primer to clean crankshaft, and then apply 185-3988 Retaining Compound to the ID of the crankshaft seal wear sleeve before installation. For more information about LOCTITE, refer to Information Release Memo, PEGJ0075, "Cat® Henkel Loctite® Crossover Document".

    Note: Install the crankshaft front seal with the arrow that shows the direction of crankshaft rotation toward the front of the engine.

The Wear Sleeve should be installed 1.5 ± 0.5 mm (0.059 ± 0.02 inch) from end of crankshaft gear face.
C27 and C32 222-3913 Standard Crankshaft Gear has a 51 mm (2.0 inch) small pilot bore and a crank gear height of 77.74 mm (3.06 inch)
