The problem identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The 371-8459 Coupling As needs to be returned for inspection on certain TH55FT-E70 and TH55-E90 Petroleum Transmissions.

Solution

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

Inspection by Caterpillar of the 371-8459 Coupling As is needed to review durability. Caterpillar is requesting the removal of the Coupling As during a high hour planned overhaul or failure. The TH55FT-E70, or TH55-E90 Petroleum Transmission must be 2500 hp and have at least 10,000 hours.

Return the Coupling As through the Send It Back (SIB) process for inspection

Submit a request through "CPI Feedback" within the Service Information Management System (SIMSi) with needed information and refer to CPI number 429077. The information needed is: Transmission Product Service Report (PSR) with full histograms, engine model if known, and engine running hours if different than the transmission PSR hours.
