Fluid Sampling Tools For Nonpressurized Compartments

Usage:

Fluid sampling extraction tools, previously referred to only as "oil sampling pumps," are available from the Caterpillar Parts Department. These tools are used to obtain fluid samples from nonpressurized engine and machine compartments such as final drives, differential compartments, transfer cases, and axle housings. With the machine not operating, these tools can also obtain the same fluids from pressurized compartments. The tools can be used to obtain fluid samples for Caterpillar S·O·S programs. As the S·O·S program expands, fluids other than oil, such as coolant and brake fluids will be sampled. For that reason the name "oil sampling pump" has been changed to "fluid sampling extraction tool." The fluid sampling tools include:

... 1U5718 Vacuum Pump and 1U5719 Pump Kit
... 1U5814 Bottle Assembly
... 1U7620 Mailing Container
... 1U8757 Tube
... 1U7648 Tube Cutter and 1U8589 Blade

The 1U5718 Vacuum Pump is capable of pulling 84.5 kPa (25 in Hg) vacuum. The pump is compact and accepts 1U8757 Tube and the 1U5814 Bottle Assembly. The 1U5719 Kit provides replacement seals for the vacuum pump.

The 1U5814 Bottle Assembly has a 118.4 mL (4 fl oz) capacity. The bottle is marked showing the fluid fill level at 3/4 capacity. If the bottle was completely full, a temperature change during mailing could cause the sample of fluid to expand and rupture the bottle. The partially filled bottle also allows the lab to shake the fluid sample prior to extracting fluid for the test.

The 1U7620 Mailing Container provides a convenient method to mail the 1U5814 Bottle Assembly to the processing lab.

The 1U8757 Tube consists of 30.5 m (100 ft) of 6.4 mm (1/4") outside diameter plastic tubing. Random lengths of tubing can be easily dispensed from the tubing package. The tubing is used to connect the vacuum pump to the fluid to be sampled. The tube should be discarded after each use.

The 1U7648 Tube Cutter is a convenient tool that easily cuts the 1U8757 Tube to the desired length. 1U8589 Blades are available to replace the cutter blades.
