Extra Injection Nozzle Clamp Helps Prevent Injection Nozzle Damage

Usage:

All 3400 Series Direct Injection Engines

Reference: Service Magazine, April 9, 1984, "New Adapter Assemblies And Clamp Hold Fuel Nozzles In Position".

Description of Change: Two clamps should now be used on each injector on 3400 Series DI Engines equipped with either the 4W5719 or the 4W5733 Adapter Assemblies. The use of two clamps helps prevent high pressure fuel loss inside the nozzle, which can cause the nozzle case to split.

Adaptable As: The second 4W5717 Clamp should be added to any engine that uses either the 4W5719 or the 4W5733 Adapter Assemblies. One additional 4W5717 Clamp and two 5P6900 Bolts are required per cylinder. Tighten the bolts of one clamp to 31 ± 7 N·m (23 ± 5 lb ft). Tighten the bolts of the second clamp to the same torque. Recheck the torque on the first clamp then recheck the torque on the second clamp. Repeat the same sequence on the other injector nozzles and clamps. See the Illustrations.

NOTE: Make sure the concave surface of the clamp is toward the sleeve as shown in the Illustration.
