Start By:

  1. Remove the piston motor (Hydraulic Fan).

    Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.

    Spring force will be released when covers are removed.

    Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.


  1. Attach the piston motor to Tooling (A) or suitable fixture.

  2. Remove bolts (1) and (2) from head assembly (3).

  3. Remove head assembly (3) from housing (4).

  4. Remove plugs (5) and (6) from head assembly (3).

  5. Remove orifice (7), spring (8), and O-ring seal (9) from plug (5).

  6. Remove O-ring seal (13), spring (12), guide (11), and spool (10) from plug (6).

  7. Remove plug (14) from head assembly (3).

  8. Remove O-ring seal (15), spring (16), and guide (17) from plug (14).

  9. Remove O-ring seal (18) and control plate (19) from housing (4).

  10. Install Tooling (B) into rotating assembly (20).

  11. Remove retaining ring (21) and cover (22).

  12. Remove lip seal (23) from cover (22).

  13. Remove O-ring seal (24) and washer (25).

  14. Attach Tooling (C) to housing (4), as shown.

  15. Use Tooling (C) to remove rotating assembly (20) from housing (4). The barrel must not bind while the barrel is pulled through the housing. Do not allow the barrel to separate from the pistons during the removal procedure.

  16. Remove Tooling (B) and barrel assembly (26) from the pistons.

  17. Remove spring (28) and shim (27) from barrel assembly (26).

  18. Raise the temperature of the shaft assembly to a temperature of 120° C (248° F). Remove screws (29) from the shaft. Remove plate (30) and the pistons from the shaft.

  19. Remove center pin (31) and pistons (32) from plate (30). The piston rings are nonserviceable separately from the pistons.

  20. Remove retaining ring (34) and washer (35) from shaft (33).

  21. Use Tooling (D) and a suitable press to remove bearings (36) from shaft assembly (33).

  22. Remove plug (37) and the O-ring seal from housing (4).
