There have been instances of issues with the DEF injector on certain C4.4 engines that have been linked to high DEF injector temperatures.

If the DEF system is not allowed to purge and cool down, the DEF injector may reach temperatures that are beyond the design specification. This condition may damage the injector seals. Removing battery power by operation of the battery disconnect switch may cause this condition to occur.

Ensure that the correct engine shutdown procedures are followed each time the engine is stopped. Allow the DEF system to purge and cool down before removing battery power. This process may take up to 18 minutes, depending on engine and exhaust system temperatures when the engine is stopped. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, Engine Stopping or Operation and Maintenance Manual, Battery Disconnect Switch for more information.
