Larger Oil Pump Used To Give Better Clutch Cooling And Bearing Lubrication

Usage:

7251 And 7261 Marine Transmissions

Description of Change: A larger oil pump is used on 7251 and 7261 Marine Transmissions. The oil flow from this new pump is about 38 liters/min. (10 gpm) more than the former pump. This increased oil flow results in better clutch cooling and better lubrication of the 6L5438 Bearing in the mainshaft group.

A new shaft assembly, sleeve, and dowel are used in the clutch group. These new parts are needed because of the larger splines on the pump drive shaft.

A new tube assembly and elbow is used in the lower shaft group. This new tube assembly and elbow is needed to help give increased oil flow to the 6L5438 Bearing.

Changes have also been made to the housing groups on these transmissions. New tube assemblies and a new housing assembly are used to help increase the oil flow to the clutch and to the bearing on the mainshaft group.

Adaptable As: The new pump group is a direct replacement for the former pump group when used with the other parts shown in the chart.

Modifications to the 7L5168 Manifold (part of the 4L4314, 7L4911 and 9G6767 Housing Groups) are necessary to give clearance for the new pump. See Illustration 1 for the necessary modifications.

Modifications must also be made to the 7L5169 Housing Assembly (part of the 7L4911 Housing Group) and to the 5L3313 Housing Assembly (part of the 4L4314 and 9G6767 Housing Groups). See Illustration 2 for the location of the hole that must be added to these housing assemblies.
