New Air Starting Motor Has A Slip-Clutch Type Drive Gear

Usage:

D379, D398, D399 And 3500 Series Industrial, Marine And Generator Set Engines;
G379, G398, G399 Natural Gas Engines

Reference: Engine News, August 25, 1982, Page 2. The article "New Air Starting Motor Group Available" tells about the use of a stronger pinion shaft. More improvements have now been made.

Description of Change: New air starting motor groups are now available for the above engines. The new groups have a slip-clutch type drive gear that will limit the maximum amount of torque that can be put on the pinion. Also, the new pinion is made from a harder material to decrease the wear on the teeth. There is a new drive gear and pinion for right or left hand mountings with standard and opposite-standard engine rotation. These changes will increase the service life of the starting motor.

Adaptable To: The new groups are direct replacements for the former groups as shown in Chart A. The former groups are canceled. The new groups are adaptable to the models shown in Chart B. The new pinion and gear assembly are direct replacements for the former pinion and gear assembly.
