--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: A new head gasket is used in 3208 Naturally-Aspirated Engines. The metal wrap on the new gasket is thicker and the fire ring has a larger diameter than the one on the former gasket. The new gasket will make an improved combustion seal.

Adaptable To: Th new gasket is adaptable to earlier engines when they are equipped with the correct bolts. See the bolt information that follows. For parts service, order a 6N8505 Gasket as a replacement for the former 9L9164 Gasket. The former gasket is still available for use in earlier engines as shown below.

All 3100 Series Engines and the early 3208 Engines used cylinder head bolts with a torque specification of 130 N·m (95 lb ft). These earlier bolts can be identified by six dash marks on the bolt head. Engines with these bolts should continue to use the 9L9164 Gasket.

Later 3208 Engines used stronger cylinder head bolts with a higher torque specification of 150 N·m (110 lb ft). These bolts can be identified by seven dash marks on the bolt heads. The improved 6N8505 Gasket should be used in engines which have these stronger bolts.

The 6N8505 Gasket can be used in the 3100 Series Engines and earlier 3208 Engines, but only if cylinder head bolts with seven dash marks are used, and tightened to a torque of 150 N·m (110 lb ft).
