Aftercooler - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the air inlet lines.

  1. Remove bolts (6) and strap (5). Remove bolts (3) and elbow (2). Disconnect tube assembly (4).

  2. Remove shield assembly (1).

  3. Remove clamps (7).

  4. Disconnect wiring harness (8).

  5. Remove line assembly (9) and line assembly (10).

  6. Remove bolts (13) and strap (15). Remove bolts (11) and elbow (12).

  7. Disconnect tube assembly (14), tube assembly (16), and tube assembly (17).

  8. Attach a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (18). The weight of aftercooler (18) is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb).

  9. Remove bolts (19). Repeat for the opposite side.

  10. Use Tooling (C) in order to lift the rear of aftercooler (18). Remove aftercooler (18) from the engine.

  11. Remove bolts (21), bolts (22), and elbow (20).

  12. Repeat Step 11 for the opposite side.

  13. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device onto housing (23). The weight of housing (23) is approximately 39 kg (85 lb). Remove bolts (24). Remove housing (23) and the gasket.

  14. Remove two bolts (25). Install Tooling (D). Remove remaining bolts (25).

  15. Slide cover (26) outward on Tooling (D). Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device onto cover (26). The weight of cover (26) is approximately 39 kg (85 lb). Remove cover (26) and the gasket.

  16. Repeat Steps 14 and 15 for the opposite side.

  17. Remove bolts (28) and elbow (28). Remove bolts (29) and elbow (30).

  18. Attach a suitable lifting device onto cover (31). The weight of cover (31) is approximately 68 kg (150 lb). Remove bolts (32). Remove cover (31) and the gasket.

  1. Install aftercooler (18) in reverse order of removal.

    1. Install Tooling (D). Position a new gasket on Tooling (D). Apply Tooling (E) in order to fill the open end of the seal groove at each of the four corners. Apply a continuous bead of 5 mm (0.2 inch) diameter between points (A) and (B) at each of the four corners.
