Start By:
- Remove auxiliary water pump
- Remove engine oil filter base
- Remove bolts (1) and fumes disposal cover (2).

Illustration 2 g06054824 - Disconnect harness assembly (5) and position out of the way. Remove bolt (4) and remove crankshaft speed sensor (3).

Note: Make index marks on camshaft gear (9), idler gear (12), and the fuel injection pump drive gear to aid in installation.

- Install camshaft gear (9) in the reverse order of removal.
- Lubricate O-ring (18) with oil being sealed.
- Tighten bolts (15) to a torque of
25 ± 3 N·m (221 ± 27 lb in) . - Apply clean engine oil to bolts (13). Tighten bolts (13) to a torque of
30 ± 2 N·m (266 ± 18 lb in) then turn an extra 90 degrees ± 5 degrees. - Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of
60 ± 3 N·m (44 ± 2 lb ft) then turn an extra 60 degrees ± 6 degrees. - Align camshaft timing wheel (8). Refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Speed/Timing Sensor - Calibrate".
- Check backlash of camshaft gear (9). Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Rear Gear Group - Time".
- Apply Tooling (A) to bolts (6). Tighten bolts (6) to a preliminary torque of
10 ± 1 N·m (89 ± 9 lb in) . Then tighten to a final torque of29 ± 4 N·m (257 ± 35 lb in) . - Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of
