New VIMS software is now available on Certain Large Off-Highway Truck/Tractors is now available for the machines that are listed above.

Adaptable To: Refer to Tables 1 and 2 below for the flash file and compatible config. file for the VIMS Main and App modules.

The correct flash file and compatible configuration file for the VIMS Main module are listed in Table 1.

Table 1

Note: (A) Enter the part number of the files, when searching for the software and configuration files in SIS web. Entering the machines Serial Number will not always give the compatible configuration file for the flash file used on the VIMS platform.

(B) When searching for the Latest Production software in SIS web, in the Flash Software Download page, click the "VIMS Software & Current Releases" Link. This will bring up the "DEALER.CAT.COM" web page. Under Related Links, click "VIMS 3G Production Software Compatibility Matrix". The VIMS3G Production Flash File and Production Configuration Compatibility Matrix will pop up. Search for the correct software files for a specific machine type

(C) Before using Communications Adapter 3 (CA3), make sure that the PC drivers and CA3 firmware have been updated.

(D) Use the latest version of Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) for the optimal machine software support. Use "WinFlash" to flash the new software onto the Module.

(E) The Configuration files are flashed onto the VIMS Module using the latest version of VIMSpc (2011A or later). Get the latest version of VIMSpc at: https://dealer.cat.com/cda/layout?m=398435&x=7&f=882808

(F) Prior to flashing new software, Download VIMS settings/information to help you reconfigure VIMS. Connect to VIMS Main when prompted.

(G) If the configuration settings, prior to flash change with the new software installation, reenter the ET settings using the information of the PSR obtained prior to flash.

Flash File Improvements and Enhancements

492-0866 Monitor Software Gp(Main Module)

  • Improved Telemetry reports to start outgoing message sequence at number "0", instead of "1", as defined in the Telemetry protocol

  • Corrected VIMS webpage error message reported, when viewing through Google Chrome.

  • Improved Data Logger channels to report fault status (appropriate DSIs), instead of displaying "0" or some constant value. The fault status could indicate that either the requested parameters are not supported or there is no response for a requested parameter over the datalink, for a given machine.

  • Improved error message description, when configuration file is either missing or is incompatible with the flash file on the ECM

  • Improved VIMS configuration file upload process by supporting header information, indicating whether the configuration is meant for either the Main or Application module

  • Improved Telemetry message to reports Service Meter Hour (SMH) in the correct format

  • Improved Error Message with appropriate text, if user tries to upload a wrong Geo transform file (for HPGPS receiver), through the XIM tab hosted in the VIMS webpages.

  • Improved GPS functionality to automatically option and sync leap seconds updates from GPS receiver.

  • Improved certain MineStar message to support Fuel Level information.

  • Improved GPS date and time processing by discarding invalid data as reported by the HPGPS receiver. This should resolve the random incorrect time reporting of UTC date and time origin (1980), typically reported for a few seconds at key ON.

  • Improved GPS date and time processing during periods when HPGPS receiver experiences a loss of signal, during machine run time. This should eliminate the occurrence of time and date incorrectly reporting 10 years in the future.

  • Improved logic for both APECS and non-APECS transmission shift related histograms and trends, to capture potential consecutive same directional shifts.

  • Corrected the continuous file push issue that was associated with processing invalid GPS time from the HPGPS receiver.

  • Corrected invalid character being inserted in the report files, associated with processing of invalid GPS time from the HPGPS receiver.

492-0874 Monitor Software Gp(App Module)

  • Improved J1939 support for reporting ECM Info, diagnostics, and events over EDDT and lifetime payload totals (weight and cycle count).

  • Improved VIMS configuration file upload process by supporting header information, indicating whether the configuration is meant for either the Main or Application module.

  • Improved Telemetry TPMS cycle message to report correct fuel information.

  • Improved ECM replacement support to include certain payload totals.

  • Improved Front Axle Pressure to Weight ratio value written from ET, to be used for Payload Calculations

Configuration File Improvements and Enhancements

VIMS Main: 495-4197 Monitor Software Gp, 495-4207 Monitor Software Gp, 495-4199 Monitor Software Gp

  • Improved logic for non-APECS and APECS transmission shift related histograms and trends, to capture potential consecutive same directional shifts - 793F/797F.

  • The following changes were made to data logger channels:

- Added support for the following sub listed parameters associated with Engine Status channel - 793F/797F/795F AC.

i) Idle Cutout Active

ii) Cold Cylinder Cutout Active

iii) Emergency Stop Shutdown

iv) Elevated Idle

- Added datalogger support for Anti-Rollback Status and Transmission Main Relief Valve Actual Pressure - 793F/797F

- Corrected Fuel Rail Pressure and Engine Status multiple channel reporting - 793F/797F// 795F AC

- Corrected Engine Oil Temperature channel reporting - 793F/797F

- Corrected Parking Brake Status and Percent Fuel Position channel reporting - 797F

  • Corrected Upshift & Downshift Lock-up Clutch Engagement Trends that had swapped conditions - 793F/797F

  • Added Engine Shutdown and snapshot support for Event 171-3, from MID $24 -793F

  • The following changes were made to histograms

- Added Radiator Fan Speed Histogram - 793F/797F/ 795F AC

- Changed APECS LUC histogram start and end boundaries and removed trigger conditions - 793F/797F

VIMS App: 495-4198 Monitor Software Gp, 495-4210 Monitor Software Gp, 495-4203 Monitor Software Gp

  • Addressed Telemetry (Scoreboard) diagnostics that would remain "Active" and eventually trigger 890-09 code and remain active, even though "External Payload Indicator Configuration" setting gets changed to Disabled (793F/797F/ 795F AC )

  • Removed TPMS and TKPH SEA override support for serial number prefix SXP (water wagon arrangement) - 793F
