C1.5 and C2.2 Industrial Engines Caterpillar

Diesel Particulate Filter Temperature Is Low

Usage:

C1.5 G9N
Use this procedure to troubleshoot the following code:

Table 1
Diagnostic Trouble Codes for ARD Failed to Ignite
J1939 Code     Code Description     Comments
3242-18     Aftertreatment #1 DPF Intake Gas Temperature : Low - moderate severity (2)     The temperature at the intake of the DPF is below the trip point that is calculated by the ECM. The trip point varies depending on engine operating conditions.
Active regeneration is disabled.

ARD Air Supply

Visually inspect the components for the ARD Air supply. Check for the following faults:

  1. Confirm that there are no kinks in the air lines to restrict the flow.

  1. Confirm that the reed valve is not blocked and can move freely.

  1. Confirm that the air pump belt is tensioned correctly: New belt = 310 N (70 lb), Used belt = 220 N (49.5 lb).

  1. Check if the air filter is blocked. Change filter if maintenance schedule has passed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule".

  1. Check the operation of the air pump. Refer to Troubleshooting, "ARD Combustion Air - Test".

ARD Fuel Supply

Visually inspect the components for the ARD Fuel supply. Check for the following faults:

  1. Confirm if the electric lift pump is damaged.

  1. Check if the primary fuel filter is blocked. Change filter if maintenance schedule has passed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule".

  1. Check if the secondary fuel filter is blocked. Change filter if maintenance schedule has passed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule".

  1. Use electronic service tool to override the ARD injector 2 and check that the ARD injector 2 is injecting fuel.

Battery Voltage

  1. Confirm that the battery voltage is greater than 13 VDC during a regeneration with all of the engine auxiliary components activated.
