Gear Pump (Charge) - Remove and Install Procedure
Start By:
- Move the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Drain the oil from the hydraulic system, as required, into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations. |
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Mark parts as needed to aid in assembly. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes, this action helps to prevent fluid loss and helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before beginning the remove procedure, cleaning the exterior will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt.
- Disconnect the hose assembly from the suction port (2) of charge pump (1) .

- Disconnect the hose assembly from outlet port (3) .
- Remove two bolts (4) and two washers (5) .

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Remove charge pump (1) from the piston pump (water delivery).
- Install charge pump (1) in the reverse order of removal.
Note: Check the O-ring seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Note: Lubricate the O-rings and the seals with the lubricant that is used while in operation.
Note: Ensure that the O-ring seal used between the gear pump and the piston pump is lubricated and in place.
- Fasten charge pump (2) with two bolts (4) and two washers (5). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

- Fasten the hose assembly to suction port (2) with the four bolts and four washers. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

- Fasten the hose assembly to outlet port (3) with the four bolts and four washers. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).
