Radiator and Aftercooler - Remove and Install

Usage:

C13 CE3

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the fan.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Loosen clamp (2) and clamp (4). Remove tube assembly (1).

  3. Disconnect hose (3).

  4. Remove bolt (5) and position the clamp and hose out of the way.

  5. Remove bolts (8) and strap (9).

  6. Loosen clamp (6) and clamp (7).

  7. Remove nuts (13) and the clamp.

  8. Remove bolt (10) and bolt (11).

  9. Remove guard (12).

  10. Remove clamp (14) and tube assembly (16).

  11. Loosen clamp (15) and position tube assembly (17) out of the way of the radiator and aftercooler.

  12. Remove bolts (18) and strap (19).

  13. Loosen clamp (20) from tube assembly (21).

  14. Loosen clamp (22) and remove tube assembly (21).

  15. Disconnect hose assembly (23) and hose assembly (24) from the fuel cooler.

  16. Remove bolts (25) and remove door assembly (26).

  17. Remove bolts (27) from the radiator. Repeat Step 17 on the other side of the radiator.

  18. Remove bolts (28) and bolts (31). Remove plate (32) and plate (33).

  19. Remove hatch (29).

  20. Remove bolts (30) and bolts (35) from roof assembly (34).

  21. Use suitable lifting device to remove roof assembly (34). The weight of roof assembly (34) is approximately 31 kg (68 lb).

  22. Use a suitable lifting device to remove radiator and aftercooler (36). The weight of radiator and aftercooler (36) is approximately 113 kg (250 lb).

  23. Remove bolts (37). Remove radiator and aftercooler (36).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install radiator and aftercooler (36) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (30) to a torque of 30 ± 7 N·m (22 ± 5 lb ft).

    2. Tighten bolt (18) and bolt (8) to a torque of 15 ± 3 N·m (133 ± 27 lb in).
