The 4C5084 Oil Filter Cutter is designed for use on conventional design and the new (1RXXXX) spin-on liquid filters designed by Caterpillar. This new cutter replaces the former 6V7905 Cutter. Changes to the filter design are primarily internal and are apparent when cutting open the head of the canister. The cutter uses the internal structure of the filter can as a cutting "anvil" and will cut as close to this support as possible.

Internal filter inspection is a common practice when diagnosing potential machine problems that are due to system contaminants, or when comparing with competitive filters. Use the filter cutter to make the job easier. See Reference Article.

The new filter cutter, with a quick wheel adjustment, opens both the former and new design filters. See the Special Instruction for the wheel adjustment procedures.
