Usage:
3406, 3406B, 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines
Reference: See next article, "Connecting Rod Bearing Maintenance ".
Description of Change: A new connecting rod bearing is now used in 3406B and 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines. This bearing uses a stronger aluminum alloy that is more resistant to cavitation erosion and to aluminum fatigue than the former bearing.
Adaptable To: The new bearings are effective with 3406B Truck Engine, 4MG59404, and 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engine 8TC8330.
The new 9Y9497 Bearing can be used as a direct replacement for the former 1W7524 Bearings in all 3406B Truck Engines. They can also be installed in earlier 3406 (92U) Truck Engines with the wider rod bearings, which includes these engines built after 1975. The bearing part number is stamped on the backside.
Bearing kits that have six standard size bearings are available, as well as undersize bearing kits and undersize bearings. See illustration.
